 Development of circulation type region is not only considered as the most crucial issue in 21st century for urban regions in Japan but also for Asia countries which are under rapid economic growth. Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research in Toyo University is constructing a demonstration facility to realize the restructure of circulation symbiosis type building and installing a natural symbiosis type water purification experiment facility in Kawagoe Campus to promote advanced technology system to which regional matter circulation from building construction to organic matter circulation is urged, and regional social system research and innovative industry-institute collaboration research are put forward.

        Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research is founded by “University-Industry Joint Research” Project for Private University: matching fund subsidy by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) under the project title of “Research project of integrative technology system and supporting social system for urban revitalization based on regional circulation of construction material stock and biomass resource” (Research representative: Tsuyoshi Fujita, professor in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; research period: year 2002-2008) This research is supported by faculty members from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Department of Architecture (undergraduate school), and Department of Environmental System Planning and Space Design (graduate school), to promote circulation symbiosis type of technology development and system which aims for the formation of sustainable urban and region through the compatibility between economic and environmental issues.

The theme was 'The latest trend of the building a house techonology-the comfortable environment/relief/security of the house.'

The seminar had two contents.First parts was the seminar,second parts were visits to institution in Toyo University.

It is a state of the seminars of the day as follows.
The upper section left picture is Tsuchiya, Professor of Department of Architecture of Toyo University. He gave a lecture "An amount of insulation / high airtightness and house in the future" of the seminar. The upper section right picture is Kose, Associate Professor of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Toyo University. He also announced on a theme called "Roof  tree planting by the planting of the sweet potato and the temperature chilling effect" of the seminar.The state of the participant that the lower berth left observes the experiment house of the Toyo University area industry symbiosis research center by a visit to institution of second parts,The right is a university researcher, a state of the interchange society with the member of industry-university co-operation cooperation fixed-job worker.

Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research, Toyo University (Director. Prof .FUJITA) is founded by the Matching Fund Subsidy for Private Universities between Ministry of Education and Science in year 2004.

The technology and society system which realize recycle oriented society is studied practically over five years (2004-2008).


The project consists of four main themes which are closely collaborated by various companies including Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd., municipal government, and research organizations.

In the future, this research will be further expanded to larger scale project involved collaborations with citizen, NPO ＆ administration sectors which realizes construction resource ＆ organic water circulation symbiosis as an integrative consulting system for the development of circulation symbiosis.

Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is widely considered as one of the most effective policy and business concepts to realize sustainable developments which are to reduce local and global environmental emission while providing feasible profits and motivations for business sectors, municipalities and citizen groups. 

Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research, Toyo University(CRIS) is founded by the Matching Fund Subsidy for Private Universities between Ministry of Education and Science, Japan, to commence the innovative research for technology , business models and municipal governances systems, based on the scientific and practical projects in the collaboration among researchers, business managers and municipal officials. The Center is engaged in the following four main projects. 

[1]REGIONAL RECYCLING SYSTEM FOR BUILT ENVIRONMENTS 
On-site experimental projects for design and construction systems will provide practical eco-design, eco-material and disassembly processed and recycling technologies, which will be investigated as regional-scale governance systems to obtain the environmental and economical sustainability. 

[2]URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEM FOR SYMBIOTIC REGION 
Local water storage and recycling systems are developed in the on-site eco-housing projects. 

[3]INTEGRATIVE SYSTEM FOR SUSTAINABLE ECO-INDUSTRIAL ESTATES 
This project develops the integrative planning and evaluation system for sustainable eco-industrial estates with a strong partnership with Business NPO and Kawasaki City Governments. The project provides the Web-GIS data base with disaggregated area-scale material data and the statistics and various regional data. 

[4]EXPANDING NETWORK WITH PIONEER BUSINESSES AND INTERNATIONAL CENTERS 
CRIS officially starts its research collaboration with the Center for Eco-planning of Dalian University of Technology and the collaboration for symbiotic business models and technologies are dynamically expanding.
