About Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research

Development of circulation type region is not only considered as the most crucial issue in 21st century for urban regions in Japan but also for Asia countries which are under rapid economic growth. Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research in Toyo University is constructing a demonstration facility to realize the restructure of circulation symbiosis type building and installing a natural symbiosis type water purification experiment facility in Kawagoe Campus to promote advanced technology system to which regional matter circulation from building construction to organic matter circulation is urged, and regional social system research and innovative industry-institute collaboration research are put forward.

Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research is founded by “University-Industry Joint Research” Project for Private University: matching fund subsidy by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) under the project title of “Research project of integrative technology system and supporting social system for urban revitalization based on regional circulation of construction material stock and biomass resource” (Research representative: Tsuyoshi Fujita, professor in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; research period: year 2002-2008) This research is supported by faculty members from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Department of Architecture (undergraduate school), and Department of Environmental System Planning and Space Design (graduate school), to promote circulation symbiosis type of technology development and system which aims for the formation of sustainable urban and region through the compatibility between economic and environmental issues.
